Alan Meredith – Un corazón con la puerta siempre abierta

Me entero hoy de la muerte del doctor Alan Meredith. Conocerlo, hablar con él, intercambiar bromas y chistes y trabajar con él de cerca me hicieron mejor persona. A él le dedico hoy esta entrada de mi blog.

«It is with sadness that we announce the passing of former UFLA president and longtime Spanish profesor at Brigham Young University, Dr. Robert Alan Meredith. Alan passed away December 26, 2013 at age 68 after a long battle with cancer.

Alan grew up in North Hollywood and served an LDS mission to Uruguay. Following his mission, he attended BYU where he earned a B.A. and M.A., and later completed a Ph.D. in Foreign Language Education at Ohio State University.

In 1967 Alan married Kathleen Belle Katz, and together s untimely death, Alan married Annebel Eklof Mathews in 1994 and thereupon inherited an additional five stepchildren. Alan was a devoted father to his children and a loving grandfather to 43 grandchildren.

In 1979 Alan accepted a professorial position at BYU, where he taught undergraduate and graduate clases in Spanish Pedagogy until his retirement in 2012. Among his many contributions to BYU were training and supervising student instructors, co-authoring the textbook Háblame!, serving as head of the Spanish Pedagogy section, and organizing the competitive s annual Spanish Fair for K-12 students. s Summer Institute in Spain, offering dozens of junior high and high school Spanish teachers the opportunity to hone their language and teaching skills.

Alan will be remembered for his dedication to his students, his love of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, his offbeat sense of humor, and his selfless service to the language teaching profession. He truly made a difference in the lives of many people.» (From UFLA Winter 2014 Newsletter)
